Harold is a dynamic congregational leader with over 34 years’ experience in a growing congregations and nurturing passionate Christians, most recently at Trinity Streetsville, which he built into one of the largest and most active congregations in the Anglican Church of Canada.

A conference speaker
Harold has helped many churches in areas such as congregational development, getting focused in ministry, making disciples, financial stewardship, developing passionate spirituality, evangelism and congregational leadership.
A clergy coach
Newly retired from Trinity Streetsville, Harold is now available as a coach for clergy who show promise in their leadership, but who could use help in developing the skills and practices necessary for the growing of vital congregations.
The candidates selected for this project will:
> Be younger, with many years of effective leadership ahead of themBe currently incumbent of a parish
> Be experienced enough to know that congregational leadership is not as easy as they might once have imagined
> Show promise of becoming an effective leader, both in developing a vital congregation, and in becoming a coach/mentor to others
> Have a congregation who are supportive of their rector’s involvement in the project, and who are willing to grow with him/her through the process.
This mentoring relationship with clergy and congregations will normally be for up to three years. NB. There are currently no spaces available, but there is a waiting list.

Harold’s bio
Harold was ordained in the Diocese of Toronto in 1975. He served as assistant curate at St. Bride’s, Clarkson, associate priest at Little Trinity in downtown Toronto, and as rector of St. James Humber Bay in Etobicoke, before becoming rector of Trinity Church, Streetsville in Mississauga, in 1987. Harold also spent three years doing doctoral studies in New Testament with Professor C.K. Barrett at the University of Durham in Britain before determining that his true calling in ministry was parish leadership, discipleship and evangelism.
After serving as the first director of the Wycliffe College Institute of Evangelism, Harold was awarded an honorary doctorate by the college in 2000 in recognition of his work in evangelism, discipleship and congregational development in the church across the country.
He is the author of three books:

Your Church Can Thrive: Making The Connections That Build Healthy Congregations (2003)
Harold is also the creator of the video course “Christianity 101”, which has been used in more than 300 congregations in Canada and the USA, and was a columnist for The Anglican Journal for 10 years.
Harold is the proud father of four children and three grandsons, one of whom he shares with John Bowen.
